Meet the Team: Salem Taye, Business AnalystSalem Taye

At BTM Global, we believe our work is about more than just technology. It’s about our people and our relationships with clients and colleagues. We hope this “Meet the Team” series gives you a better understanding of the personalities and passions that make up BTM Global!

We’re deliberate about the seasoned and diverse teams we put together for our clients, and we take pride in the fact that we don’t all come from typical tech backgrounds. Salem Taye, a business analyst with a history in sourcing and store operations, is an outstanding example of how breadth of experience gives our clients a more well-rounded perspective of the problems they’re facing and the solutions they need.

As a business analyst, what are your responsibilities?

I’m responsible for understanding what my client needs for their business process – a modification, a customization, an integration, etc. – and I partner with my internal and technical teams to capture the effort required to deliver it. As a functional business analyst, I have to understand what this means functionally for my client and how it will directly impact their users.

What excites you about your work?

I have an opportunity to implement or design something specifically for my client. I initially joined BTM because I wanted to expand my skillset in consulting, as well as build relationships and learn about different business processes across the retail landscape. I don’t have a software or technical background, but I have a strong merchandising and store operations background so BTM seemed like the perfect fit!

You spent many years working at Target in various capacities. How does that inform your current work?

While in sourcing at Target headquarters, I gained insight in merchandising, merchandising operations, supply chain/inventory management and vendor management. While in store operations, I worked directly with the stores and several cross-functional teams. I’ve also worked in the Target stores, so I understand some of the pain points my clients feel and the downstream effects.

All of these experiences help me scope out who will be impacted and how when I help clients tackle problems, such as: How will a certain solution help? What are the risks? Will this truly solve their problem? What does this mean for the store employees and customers? What does this mean for headquarters?

What’s BTM’s best kept secret?

We keep our team in Vietnam and our team in the U.S. in sync, and that can be a challenge in this industry. I’ve been very impressed with my experience working with a variety of teams here at BTM.

In addition, leadership makes an effort to support and value everyone. The flexibility here is great and everyone is respectful and professional.

Tell us about your life outside of work.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends – especially in the outdoors – and have strong interests in music, art, film, writing and fashion. My passion is traveling, during which I can do all of the things I enjoy most, like learning about the social, political and cultural elements of a different culture, trying new foods, meeting people, and discovering new art and fashion.
