Meet the Team: Kate Mayer, Vice President of Retail Strategy
At BTM Global, we believe our work is about more than just technology. It’s about our people and our relationships with clients and colleagues. We hope this “Meet the Team” series gives you a better understanding of the personalities and passions that make up BTM Global!
We’re not the largest retail system integrator and developer on the market, and we like it that way. It allows us to be nimble and to quickly call on our people’s expertise when opportunities arise. That’s what we saw in Kate Mayer, our vice president of retail strategy. Kate’s initial responsibilities were setting the company’s strategic direction to support our continued growth. And when the chance came to expand our sales team, Kate had the perfect expertise to leverage.
How has your role changed now that you’re also a member of the sales team?
In addition to continuing my role in setting company strategy, I now get to be out in the field a bit more and work directly with retailers. I have a long history working for and with retailers, and I love engaging with them directly and helping to solve their challenges
What keeps you interested in the retail technology space?
I started working at Dayton’s when I was 15 years old and cash registers weren’t even electronic! When I graduated college and worked at Target headquarters, each department had one computer to help figure out order quantities. Since then I’ve worked for companies like SuperValu, Oracle Retail and SAP, so I’ve seen how retail evolves and continues to unearth new ways of supporting the process of plan, make, buy, move and sell. There are always things to learn and that’s why I stay.
Why did you decide to join BTM?
I’ve known many people on the BTM Global team from our days working together at Retek (now Oracle Retail). I have seen firsthand their integrity to do right by the companies that hire us, so the decision to come on board was easy. I love working with people who work hard, have fun and do the right thing. Plus, my work here lets me leverage all of my past work experiences.
What’s BTM’s best kept secret?
It’s the charity work we do for children and families living in tough conditions in Vietnam. To the management team here, our company growth means that they can also do more charitable work to help those families.
Tell us about your life outside of work.
I share my home with two terriers, Maggie and Oskar, and I live near my sister and her family (which is also in the neighborhood where I grew up). I love mid-century homes and furniture, and I enjoy house projects and gardening in the summer (it is Minnesota after all). I have a great group of friends and we call ourselves “Women Who Wine” – we’ve been meeting monthly for the past 20 years!
I love to cook and bake, and I baked cookies and brought them to my interview with BTM Global. I’m pretty sure that helped me land the job!
